Description: Columbia, formerly “Wrights Ferry” is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with a population of 10,222 at the 2020 census. It was established by John Wright in 1726 and grew up around the site of the important “Inn and Pub” anchoring the eastern end of a popular animal powered ferry (1730-1901) and now a historic part of Columbia, Pennsylvania. Columbia is 28 miles southeast of Harrisburg, on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. The settlement was founded in 1726 by Colonial English Quakers from Chester County. Harry W. Zeamer (1869-1924) was a druggist and chemist that established “Zeamer’s Pharmacy” in 1893 on Locust Street. The building is still standing with a memorial plaque that states “The Pharmacy had the finest use of soda fountain flavors in Lancaster County”. I could not find any other information on whether the store is still the pharmacy, but I assume that it was run by Zeamer until his death. It is also on this uncredited postcard that was in “The collection of Carl E. Peters”. It is a reproduction that is in very good condition, with minor wear on the corners. The clean image of “Zeamers Pharmacy” with an Elks Head above the door and is next to “C.R. Stirckler Hardware” with a man walking by and another leaning against the entrance. The reverse is also clean. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible.
