Description: Yurok twined trinket basket. Obsidian blade design circa 1920 - 40s. Traditionally, Yurok baskets were made from natural materials such as redwood root, hazel shoots, and bear grass. Today, Yurok basket makers continue to use these materials, as well as other materials such as willow and reed. This basket was purchased in 1993 at the California Indian Basketry & Arts (credit card labels shop as Karuk Originals - California). It was they who wrote out the description of materials and date. The lady who purchased it has an extensive collection of great baskets which I am selling for the family. DETAILS:Size: 8" opening at top tapering to a 4 1/2" base - 5" high
