Description: Complete 40 volume set of the works of Shakespeare, including all plays, sonnets, poems including Venus and Adonis, and miscellaneous verse. Also includes a biographical volume with extensive contemporary documents related to his life in the 15/16th centuries. 13 volumes are original first editions from the late 1910s to 1920s: Henry IV part 2, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Merry Wives of Windsor, Shakespeare's Sonnets, Titus Andronicus, Henry VI part 3, Timon of Athens, Henry the Eighth, Cymbeline, King John, Shakespeare's Poems, and Pericles, Prince of Tyre. The rest are updated versions, mostly from the 1950s though I think 1 or 2 are late 1940s. Previous owner's name printed on the top and bottom pages edges. Some staining and wear on spines or covers as is commensurate with age. Occasional dog-eared pages or marks left by paperclips used as bookmarks for decades at a time. Looking through these and removing bookmarks I did not detect any writing of any kind on any pages.
