Description: "'Yacht', The Hattie" Isthmus Cove, Catalina Island 1891VERY RARE! This is a 5" x 8 1/2" cabinet photo of a family about to depart Catalina Island's Isthmus on Aug 6th, 1891.on the sloop Hattie. Pictures of the shoreline of Isthmus Cove predating 1900 are extremely rare. As are pictures of the Hattie. The Hattie was built in San Francisco and had a length of thirty eight and a half feet. Her home port was Los Angeles, CA.She ran between the islands and the mainland between 1889 and 1894 mostly for fishing and catching sea lions for exhibit. She ran aground and broke apart near Avalon during a brief storm. Apparantly she was well known in the area during her short life as shown by the newspaper articles mentioning her exploits in the area which are listed in this website: https://www.islapedia.com/index.php?title=Hattie. My picture of the Hattie is also shown here:https://www.islapedia.com/index.php?title=Isthmus,_Santa_Catalina_Island#top See scans.
