Description: WW2 Aircraft News Flyer/Leaflet Dropped Over Holland March 9, 1945, Battle of Remagen, Crossing the Rhine DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....thin paper leaflet, printed on both sides, dropped from plane. Appears to be a news sheet, "De Vliegende Hollander". Appears to all be written in Dutch. Has some interesting pictures of troops making their way through towns and cities, as well as Churchill and Montgomery, etc.Best part about it is that it covers the crossing the Rhine River by the Allies, and the famous battle at Remagen, based on what I can make out (not speaking Dutch!). It also has the right date of March 9, 1945, right in the middle of this famous battle which started on March 7. The Germans had mined all the bridges across the Rhine to stop the Allies from crossing, but the one at Remagen did not go off.....in spite of heavy damage it allowed the American tanks to cross over the next 10 days, resulting in a successful bridgehead. This came with a collection of surrender leaflets dropped by US bombers to encourage German civilians and soldiers to surrender. I believe they came from one of the fliers that dropped them all, as souvenirs of his runs. This piece appears to have also been dropped, apparently over Holland, as a news update on the Allied success against Germany. Measures 9 1/4" x 11". Great for framing. Would look great on the wall of an office, collection room, man cave, or family room. Very cool item and represents a lot of WW2 history! Both as an update for Holland and especially the famous Remagen crossing of the Rhine, which led to the final fall of Germany. Very good condition. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTO!!!
