Description: It's my great pleasure to offer to you this collection of memorabilia from the famed "Hell on Wheels" 2nd Armored Division. Below, I will detail a brief history of the division and war as they pertain to the pieces to emphasize their significance. Hell on Wheels 2nd Armored Division Booklet- 65 signatures and addresses from members of the 17th Armored Engineer Battalion, part of the 2nd Armored Division. Their motto, "We pave the way", held true, as they were tasked with construction and demolition during combat conditions and played a key role in Allied victory at the Battle of the Bulge as well as the infamous D-Day, to say nothing of the numerous other operations they took part in. I have identified a few of these men. Cpl. Edward S. Taylor, 17th Eng (Book's original owner, signature on first page) Donald L. Peck, 17th Eng Clifford Payton, 17th Eng Others were identified, but lost that information. Some require payed subscriptions to view. All members identified have been of the 17th. Battle information detailed in the booklet is of utmost interest, as some of these parts of the war are poorly documented online. Dates range from June 13th of 1944 to the first week of January 1945. Some notable battles include June 13th 1944. Carenten, 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division encountered "Practically destroyed" July 13-28th South of St. Lo, 2nd SS Panzer Division encountered for the first time 130th Panzer (Lehr) Division 5th Parachute Division The former two being infamous German units, the latter one being poorly documented. December 25th 1944, Celles Belgium Otherwise known as the "Battle of the Bulge". 2nd Panzer Division Encountered for the second time and "Completely Destroyed" First week of January 1945, Marche-Hotton Samree. 560th Volks Grenadier Division This one, to my knowledge, contradicts known history. Allied accounts of this battle, even combing the U.S. National Archive do not yield significant results. The only account of this battle I can find is from Major General Rudolph Bader, Commander of the 560th. Axis accounts broadly state allied forces crippled and pushed them back, but this pamphlet states the unit was "Completely destroyed". As we know, SS battle reports downplaying their own losses was far from uncommon, and here we have a battle where the only source is the enemy Commander and his men. This booklet is notably an active war document, whereas the history book is immediately post-war. Between the rarity of the booklet, contradicting battle history, and numerous signatures of the men who were there, this is a fascinating piece of history. - "Hell on Wheels" War against the Axis, book. A rare book detailing the history of the division, from its famed commanders such as General Patton, to battles, casualty reports, and invasion routes - Hell on Wheels 2nd Armored Division Painted Insignia "Souvenir of Brussels" This is a field crafted division Insignia, hand painted by a serviceman at the Liberation of Brussels Belgium September 3rd of 1944, possibly by the Book's owner Cpl. Edward S. Taylor. On the bottom, you can see several flags of countries involved in the war. This is truly a one of a kind piece. - Letter to family, rose, and 2 envelopes from Cpl. Edward S. Taylor. One April 10th, 1944, and the other November 14th 1944. The envelope is addressed to Mr. Taylor's sister, same as the card(branded W&K Artesque. Printed in England). Within the postcard is what looks to be a dried rose petal. - Hell on Wheels Second Armored Division Christmas Card I have never seen another example of this card. Made of a single sheet of paper, this card depicts wonderfully stylized art of various locations the division had been to.I have 2 of these cards. Both in great condition, one better than the other. Signed "Eddie" for his sister back home. - Last but not least, a photo of 4 servicemen, shot on Selo photo paper, presumably members of the 17th. On the back, the writer identifies the men on a first name basis. All that I can make out is "Cooper in rear" I hope you find this as interesting as I do, and see the value reflected in the history of these exceedingly rare pieces.
