The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Josef Bamberger Josef was a Private in the elite traditions army Regiment Gross-Deutschland. He fell on July 5, 1943 during the heavy fighting near Belgorod, Russia at the age of 20. Please check back often as we will be listing more coins and currency.
