The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics. Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. This particular card was printed in remembrance of: Kurt Walter Kallmeyer Kurt was a Light Machine Gunner in the Elite LAH and was awarded the Wound Badge and Infantry Assault Badge. He fell on February 14, 1942 at the age of 20 during the assault on the city of Taganrog. This card exhibits an uncommon field photo showing Kurt at attention standing behind a pair of helmets.
