Description: You are bidding on the 8th cover of a set of 100 first day covers containing stamps issued in the Marshall Islands commemorating the 50th anniversaries of the 100 most significant events starting with the invasion of Poland and ending up with the end of World War II on VJ day, September 2, 1945. This eighth cover depicts the 50th Anniversary of the Invasion of the Lowlands – Netherlands - Belgium. On May 10, 1940, German forces invaded the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The cover is double cancelled and the red cancellation is from Majuro proper on May 10, 1990, 50 years after the invasion. The cover bears one 25 cent “Bombing of Rotterdam” stamp and one 25 cent “Invasion of Belgium” 1940 stamp. The cover also contains a 15 cent Marshall Islands precancel. The cover is signed by Sailass Andrike, Director of Post for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The creator of the cover is a member of the American Philatelic Society.
