Horster, Solingen Model: M1884/98 Blade Length:9.75" Serial #:2016 / d TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWII era 1934 German Mauser k98 rifle M1884/98 bayonet. Scabbard is NOT included. There were three patterns. The first was made in 1905-1906, the second was made in 1915-1918 and the third was made during WWII. They are typically blued. During 1933-1945 period, Germany used three different marking systems to identify manufacturers. From 1925-1940 a number code were used. From 1937-1940 commercial trademarks were used. From 1940-1945 letter codes were used. This one has the letter code. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They both have light impact marks, oxidation and scrapes. Some of the finish is in the white and the rest has turned a patina color. The flashguard has small impact marks. The escutcheons securely fasten the grips. They have light tool marks with strong slots. There is some grit in the slots. The grip panels have light compressions, draglines and scrapes. There are some letters carved into the wood. The wood feels a little gritty and has darkened with age. The spine, fullers and sides have light oxidation and scrapes. The blade edge has no nicks or dings and appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp straight point. The blade retains most of its original factory finish. The left side ricasso is marked with the secret manufacturer code "S/155" E. & F. Horster, Solingen and the right side ricasso is marked with the serial number "2016 / d". The spine is marked "36" (1936). The right grip panel has initials carved into it "RP / M". This bayonet will be a great addition to your Mauser k98 rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
