Description: WWI RARE Austria-Hungarian Navy U-boat badge for sinking a French cruiser to U 15 officer Friederich Fohndrich with map and research including original post card of sub U15. This is a very rare piece. The badge was made in Budapest and is so marked. There were about 50 officers in their submarine service at this time and this is one of them. The map is named Fohndrich S.M. U 15 FOURCHE 1916 and shows coordinates where the French Cruiser was sunk. This is an ultra-rare piece my friends it truly doesn’t get much better than this. Badge is for an officer of U-15 and was awarded to the crew for sinking a French cruiser off the coast of Treiste, Italy during WWI. The badge is silver for officers and numbered XVII and engraved to Freidrich Folandrich and U-15. Badge is maker marked Morzsany, Budapest a famous Hungarian Jeweler at that time like Tiffany of NY. The badge comes with an old photo postcard showing the Hungarian destroyer Csepel with the submarine U-15 off to the left. There were only about 30 u-boats in the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy navy in WWI. They were produced in Budapest and around 20 were presented to Germany as a gift during the war. Totally monarchy naval U-boat crew are estimated at about 500 personnel and 50 officers. This is a RARE U-boat badge-engraved with the name of officer and the U-boat that he served on.
