The rifle wasn't designed for a bayonet so the bayonet was specifically retrofitted to make it work. The rifle nose cap was changed too incorporate the bayonet mount. The hilt incorporates a locking device to secure the bayonet to the scabbard. Early bayonets had markings on the spine which later moved to the ricasso. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with average spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have light impact marks and scrapes. The metal has turned a darker gray patina color. The screw escutcheons securely fasten the wood grips. They have light tool marks and oxidation with strong slots. The wood panels have light compressions, draglines and scrapes. The wood has darkened with age. The bayonet locking device to the scabbard is functional with stiff spring tension. The blade is straight with no signs of it being bent or warped, however, it has been shortened to 9.5". The spine and sides have light discoloration. The sides have scrapes from being cut down and reshaped. There are ground tool marks, maybe from cleaning oxidation off? There are no nicks or dings on the blade's cutting edge and it appears to have been sharpened, it does NOT have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a semi-sharp straight point. The finish is in the white there is scattered discoloration. The top of the spine is marked with a crown over an anchor. The left guard is marked with the serial number "903". The scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The scabbard body has been repaired at some point. The repair is about midway down and encompasses the entire scabbard. It looks to have been done well, the blade goes in and out correctly with ease. The frog stud is securely attached to the body. There are impact marks, scrapes and scratches. There is what appears to be a drainage hole on each side right above the finial. The finish has been painted black at some point and most of it still remains. A few spots have worn off. The finial is marked with the Swedish crown on one side and a serial number "148" on the other side. It is a little challenging to read.
