Description: This is a WW2 Sperti Corporation navigation Astro Compass MKII and case. Made in the USA it was issued to the Royal Canadian Air Force, and is original from the period of 1939-45. This Astro Compass is designed for field gear and equipment, and today it makes a excellent addition to any collection of original period items. It was used during the war; in Canadian combat aircraft such as BPY, B-17 and Lancaster's that flew close or within the arctic circle where this type of instrument was necessary. It is in near perfect condition, and well cared for, though the box shows that it was used. The compass shows no wear on its surfaces, and all the numbers are clear as the day that this compass was made. In it its wood box it is ready for display, and or use. It comes with the original Sperti Corp instructions as how to set it up. However it does not come with the standoff base, of which can be obtained separately on Ebay or elsewhere. This example also has rarely seen luminous glass capsules, whereas most others have luminous paint that often flakes off. These glass capsules today emit light in a dark room with eyes adjusted to darkness. With a CDV-700 Geiger counter, these capsules still register 1 mr/hr on contact. Satisfaction assured, in near perfect condition, this is a very nice historic item to own, original and used by the WW2 Royal Canadian Air Force during 1939-1945.
