Description: A World War II RAF survival backpack. These backpacks were tacked to the 41 pattern life jacket and then later could be worn as a pack or carried as a valise. They have multiple internal pockets with their own individual numbers to carry medicines, rations, first aid etc. This one has had the large waist strap replaced. These were sometimes removed for whatever reason - see page 90 of Mick J Prodger's Luftwaffe Versus RAF Flying Equipment. The one illustrated in this book shows the strap clearly removed. The Dot zip works perfectly. There is a small L shaped repair at the top of the zip. I have seen several of these damaged in the same way. There are some witness marks with some stitch holes where I believe somebody post war surplus has hurridly cut the seal at the top of the zip and caught the material. This one has clearly been filled as there is evidence where this zip has been sealed and there are some large white cotton tacks to the 2 press stud pocket on the back of the pack that have ben cut. It is clearly marked ARCTIC 22P/20. It has a large stencilled 73/6 and the name F/L BYARD. Please note I send to all countries worldwide except Italy. Contact me for the postage charge where it is not stated for your country.Sefton Clothing Company are pleased to able to offer this item for sale.
