PayPal is the only method of payment accepted Up for auction is a very unique antique WW1 (1918) French 75mm deeply hand embossed brass gun shell case decorated with a floral motif and depicting a Lion followed by an engraved verse: De leeuw van Vlaanderen (The Lion of Flanders) and on the lower part of the shell: SOUVENIR This Lion is based on the traditional iconography of the Flemish Movement who was inspired by the historical novel written by the Flemish writer Hendrik Conscience in 1838 on the battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302. This book contributed greatly to the Flemish awareness in the 19th century and the growth of the Flemish Movement into the 20th century and beyond. It has a nice age patina. The beautifully crafted metalworking skill of the creating artist is impressive! No makers mark on the surface. Measuring 35 cm tall and 8.7 cm in diameter on the base. Weight: 1.3 Kg Condition: In fair condition showing minor wear. Obviously this item captures a time and place in WW1 History and has a nice historical importance.
