Description: You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW1 Imperial Prussian Army M1891 Artillery Officer Garde Pickelhaube (Kugelhelm)! Development of the pickelhaube can be traced back to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, who initiated the original design and introduced it for wear by most of the Prussian line Infantry regiments on October 23, 1842. It became a visual symbol of Prussia's military might and underwent numerous modifications until 1915. Due to the increased number of head wounds suffered by the German troops (grenades and shell fragments), the pickelhaube became obsolete, and was replaced with a steel helmet shell in 1916. After the introduction of the M1916 helmet the pickelhaube was relegated for wear only on ceremonial occasions. Made of leather, brass, and aluminum, this M1891 Artillery Officer Pickelhaube is in VERY GOOD used condition! It retains MUCH of its original paint and finish, with some slight scratches, wear, and marks, due to the age. Both the liner and chinstrap are original to this helmet, and also show wear (fragile in some places). Both visors are intact. A PERFECT item for any collection or display!
