Description: This is an extremely fine World War II Navy and Marine Corps Medal presented to a Navy Corpsman that is in excellent condition. The planchet retains all the rich olive bronze finish and is nicely struck, exhibiting the high quality of the WWII manufactured pieces. The reverse is beautifully engraved with the recipient’s rank, name, and unit ‘PHM 3/c, MIKE GYURAK, K - Co., 3RD. BN, 9TH MARINES’. The planchet is suspended from the original blue, gold, and red ribbon and mounted on a full wrap bronze broach with functional swing pin and roller locking catch. The medal comes in a blue box with blue flocked pad and has the recipient’s name, ‘MIKE GYURAK' on one end of the top section of the box. Included in the box are two ½-inch wide, pinback Navy and Marine Corps Medal ribbon bars. Pharmacists Mate 3rd Class Gyurak joined Company ‘K’ on 24 February 1944. The action for which the medal was awarded is unknown. Research also indicates that he received a Division Letter of Commendation as well. It remains a very attractive and impressive example in excellent, near mint condition. 9071
