However, it soon becomes clear that the psychological scars of her experiences in Warsaw will not fade easily. Harry prepares to rejoin his unit as the fighting reaches North Africa. The story begins in October 1940 as young mum Lois (Julia Brown) is now an ambulance driver. Harry (Jonah Hauer-King), a Special Operations Executive and the father of Lois's baby, takes his Polish wife Kasia (Zofia Wichlacz) to meet his stern mother Robina (Lesley Manville).
