Description: A WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT SIGNED IMAGE WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT (1794-1878). Bryant was an American writer and long-time editor of the New York Evening Post. Born in Massachusetts, he showed a propensity for poetry early on, gaining much attention for writing the scathing The Embargo, an attack on the Jefferson presidency. His poetry career flourished with the publishing of his collection entitled Poems. He then became editor of the New-York Evening Post, a position he held for half a century. In his life, he was a staunch supporter of creating the Metropolitan Museum of Art and was active in creating Central Park. Bryant Park in New York City is named in his honor. PS. 4” x 6 ¼”. No date. No place. A photograph signed “William Cullen Bryant” on the mount of a carte-de-visite holder. The image of an older, bearded Bryant was slipped into the holder. There is minor browning to the holder, and the signature is dark. There is a similar photograph signed “John P Hale” on the lower margin; he was a prominent New Hampshire Senator.
