Description: 'Magdalen' lithograph after William Baxter Closson by William Rimmer; 1816-1879 American artist born in Liverpool, England, the son of a French refugee, who emigrated to Nova Scotia. William Baxter Closson; 1848-1926, American artist born in Thetford, Vermont. He moved to Boston and worked as an apprentice wood engraver with Samuel S. Kilburn. He studied at the Lowell Institute, then worked for Harper's Magazine. This print is bright and unfaded with excellent detail and plate tone in sanguine ink, the image size measuring approximately 14 cm. x 18 cm, (5½ x 7 ins.) on a wove paper sheet size of 23 cm. x 29 cm. (9 x 11½ ins.) Signed by both artists in the image. Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with handling marks to the margins condusive with age.
