Description: White Creek United Methodist Church, Bartholomew County, Indiana Collector Plate 1976 By Preston-Hopkinson Co, Appomattox, Virginia Condition as shown in photos. Measures approx 10" in diameter. No chips, cracks or crazing. A few blemishes in finish as shown, perhaps from display. Description on back is a sticker. First congregation organized by Circuit Riders in 1846. 1850 - first log building. 1872 - larger frame building. 1903 - remodeled. 1916 - destroyed by fire. 1917 - present building constructed.1976 - addition of classrooms and restrooms 1850-1933 member of German Methodist Episcopal Conference 1933 - 1969 member of English Methodist Conference 1969 - Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren merged into United Methodist Church. First pastor was Rev. Frederick Baker. The present pastor is Rev. Ross Wallace. From the church's website: "The church, like all rural churches, had some hard times. During World War II, White Creek had ten young men in the service, a large number for so small a church. Other young people were leaving the rural areas and moving to towns and cities. By 1959, God saw a small rural church struggling to keep going and a young Methodist minister struggling with health problems. He sent Rev. Ross Wallace and his wife, Eva, and three small children to serve as a part-time minister to White Creek. Rev. Wallace helped revive the small rural church and was the preacher for approximately 30 years. The church recently, in 2004, constructed a new fellowship hall which created a dining/fellowship hall, new kitchen, and new Sunday School rooms. The church is different from the early church. The “Amen” corner is gone, but members have a love for one another. When one suffers, they all suffer, and are upheld by the prayers of the church."
