Here we offer a very special item: This is a fine, signed binding of the 1926 issue of A.A. Milne's endearing classic, When We Were Very Young, published by Methuen & Company, Ltd., London. The book bears the family bookplate of famed Warner Brothers founder, Harry M Warner, and his wife, Rea. The fine leather binding is signed by Sangorski and Sutcliff, London. This is the stated fourteenth edition (in modern terms, a first edition, 14th print). When We Were Very Young is notable for being the original first book appearance of the Winnie the Pooh character that the series would become known by ("Teddy Bear" here.) Densely illustrated by the iconic Pooh illustrator, E.H. Shepard, and featuring the delightful verse A.A. Milne wrote for his boy, this book is a delight. The binding is about as beautiful as one could ask: Full colored leather, gilt-impressed boards, with ribbed and colored spine titles; decorative endpapers, and gilt all the way around the text block (to keep dust out). Boards have edgewear (please see pics.) I've applied some consolidant to the edges of the spine as a precaution, though I almost didn't because the hinges were strong and it didn't need it yet. Very tight and square binding; very clean, bright, and crisp text and illustrations. 100 pages; measures approximately 7.5 x 5.25-inches.
