Up for sale today is this West Virginia Turnpike highway sign. Made to the exact 1954 standard from when the turnpike was originally designated. the segment was given the interstate route number 77 when that national system was devised in 1957. the two were signed concurrently until the late 1980s, when these hexagonal route markers were discontinued, and the highway was just signed as route 77. there are, as far as anyone knows, no surviving examples left in the field. The sign is flat printed on heavy gauge steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 12 pounds, 2 ounces. It is the same 24 by 24 inch size that was in use on the side streets that led up to the turnpike. it is a non-reflective sign - perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors. (if you would like a different size version, please ask as I can certainly make one!) This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
