Description: Fine 1st impression edition by Pauper Press circa 1944 (it is undated). The pages are clean and clear, the binding is tight, and there are no inscriptions, marks or stamps. Slipcase has pictorial title label that is clean and undamaged. There is wear to the slipcase given its 80-year-age. Black quarter cloth over illustrated boards. Spine label in gilt lettering with gilt border. Top-edge of book is tinted green. 12 beautiful color woodcuts plus each chapter opens with a color illustration, all by Aldren Watson in the style of the 1940s. Previous owner stored two 1963 newspaper articles about Walden at the front endpaper, which caused foxing just on that endpaper. No foxing on the back endpaper (see photos). The articles are included with this book, but I’ve put them in acid-free archival sheet protectors. Book measures 6.5" wide x 10.25" high x about 1" thick. 318 pages. Please see my other antiquarian books for sale.
