Description: Wake Island 1942, 19.5” x 21”Buyer to receive the exact map shown in photos. You will see the folding has caused creases to be more defined. The bottom-center crease appears to have some discoloration, and you will see a small (but intact) tear in upper-mid center (tear size at its largest points = 1” x 0.75”). The paper is very fine, like engineering paper. Based on the date provided on the map and my research of Wake Island, it lines up with the timeline of U.S. air raids and photographic reconnaissance missions of a Japan occupied Wake Island. It also appears the map was created on Hickam Field in Hawaii. In my opinion, based on my personal military experience, I could assume the outline of Wake was traced and the details were added after recon flights to provide leadership with the “current” condition of the island and buildings, and also the potential status of the enemy activity. But that’s just a thought. I originally purchased this map from a military ephemera lot. It does not appear to be a copy or printed reproduction. It does appear hand drawn but I can only presume it to be an authentic. In my opinion, my basis for this assumption is logical. However, I unfortunately cannot fully guarantee that it is an authentic original from WW2. Current state is folded, as shown, and will be shipped as such. Free shipping No returns
