🔥Vtg Ruth Gibbs Godey's 7" Little Lady Doll China Head Hands Feet #401 1940's

Description: This listing is for a Vintage Ruth Gibb's Godey's "Little Lady " doll # 401 She stands about 7" to 7 1/2" tall and has a china head, hands, and feet. She has a cloth torso, cloth upper arms and cloth upper legs which are stuffed with either cotton or wool batting. This "Little Lady " doll has auburn (reddish brown) hair, blue eyes and a pale pink complexion. On her feet she wears tiny hand painted "golden slippers". Her face is hand painted and is absolutely exquisite. Her features are delicate and feminine. The china or porcelain is in wonderful condition. There are no mars to the paint; no scratches, no cracks, no chips and no crazing. Her pale pink cloth body is exceptionally clean and undamaged by time. Her dress is expertly stitched using a fabric the color of golden wheat with tiny brown flowers and a jewel toned Bric-A-Brac trim. Underneath she wears a tiny pair of matching pantalettes with an elastic waist and decorative Bric-A-Brac trim at the lower edge. This doll is in great condition and was owned and maintained by an adult collector. Ruth Gibbs began creating dolls in the early 1940s and obtained a patent for her her "Godey's Lady Book Dolls" in 1948. These dolls were produced in a factory in Flemington, NJ where Ruth's husband, Herbert Johnson, was the manager. The dolls came in two sizes: a 12" and a 7" doll, with the 7" dolls (like this one) being the most popular. The dolls' faces were all hand painted by different artists, so they vary slightly from one doll to the next. The earliest dolls had porcelain white complexions and looked more like antique china dolls. Later dolls had pale pink complexions or sometimes even brown complexions (rarer). The later dolls had more modern pageboy hairstyles. Hair colors were black, brown, blonde, and red. Their tiny shoes were mostly painted gold but there were other colors, too.
