Description: Very Rare Cobalt blue Ashtray (circa ;ate 30s early 40s). Deco style; designed and crafted by Ford Ceramic Arts in Columbus Ohio. Large 8" design with multiple advertising logos of the day embossed; 15 or so! Art Deco style and color with raised circle in center reading "Spot your Product". No signatures, but around the time Paul Bogatay did design and pieces for Ford. It is stamped Ford Ceramic Arts on the bottom along with what looks like Exclusive Proce$$. This rare perhaps nearly one of a kind piece was likely a salesman's sample for companies to envision what their ad may look like in the center spot. After more research, doesn't really look like Ford Ceramics got into the ashtray advertising business ( I could be wrong!) making this perhaps more of a prototype as well. Some logos present include Goodyear, Wheaties, Ipana Toothpaste, Campbells, Gerber, Sealtest, Palmolive, Lucky Strike, Camel, Shredded Wheat, Chase and Sanborn, Schenley, GE, Greyhound, etc- see all pics! Good vintage, nice shiny cobalt blue glaze, with a little fading (perhaps fired that way) around the rim as shown. Unfinished on botton A fantastic collector piece for pottery collectors, advertising, salesman's samples, and Ohioana.
