Description: Vintage Replica Mace City Of Williamsburg Virginia Colonial Williamsburg Brooch Pin With Original Box. This amazing brooch, pin was produced for colonial Williamsburg, VA. This pin is a miniature of the Mace of the City of Williamsburg, showing the seal of the city. The original mace bearing the mark of a London silversmith of the date 1749, may be seen at the Courthouse of 1770 in Williamsburg. This brooch measures approximately 3 long by wide. Some cities in colonial America owned maces, but few examples survive today. The mace of the city of Williamsburg has undergone several transformations. Because the early records of the Williamsburg Common Council were destroyed during the Civil War, much of the maces history remains unknown. Originally made in London in 17491750, the mace was probably sold by the city in the late 18th century. By the end of the 19th century, it had been cut down and its parts converted into a goblet. In 1941, it was reconstructed to its present form.
