Description: Life -size Vintage Steinheim skull set. Shows matrix bound plaster model and also a fully restored version. East German made and sold via the Dutch hygiene museum. This is the Homo-Erectus stage of the hominid fossil record… known as the Steinheim skull. From wiki: Found in 1933, It is estimated to be between 250,000 and 350,000 years old. The skull is slightly flattened and has a cranial capacity between 950 and 1280 cc. Sometimes referred to as Homo steinheimensis in older literature, the original fossil is housed in the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart, Germany. Some believe that the Steinheim skull may have belonged to an adult female due to its gracile nature. The vintage restored version skull is solid cast plastic type material and is hand painted. Original museum tag is attached and it’s in really nice condition, shows no damage. The solid plaster model is the real winner here ….of the skull as found fossilized in the earth. It has no seen markings on it and I believe it to be a very early original cast from the first mold in the 30’s. I could not find this one anywhere else. Both are in wonderful condition and were probably purchased together at the museum. Pictures of the exact skulls you will receive. I ship most orders out same or next business day and I’m happy to come by and items and save, see my other listings.
