There is an extra button for the front attached near the hemline inside. I thought the coat was missing a button, but there is no sign that a button has come off! I think it is a choice on how you find you want to use the top button! When a button comes off a coat, it leaves the evidence. Sooo I did not put it on. It will be wrapped in the pocket when sent. Also, it looks new unlike the others, which being covered with velvet, have become “worn” over the decades. The rest of the coat does not show much wear, if any, at all.! Cotton Velvet lining in the hood using velvet makes the hood totally breathable- thoughtful touch!
