Description: This is a vintage (probably 1960s or 1970s) postcard featuring an 1912 photo by Madam D'Ora (Dora Kallmus) titled "Portrait of Pavlova." Photo copyright The Royal Photographic Society, Bath. Printed in Korea. Approx. 4 1/4" x 6". Excellent condition with very light surface wear. Never used. From 1913 photo by Dora (Madame d’Ora) Kallmus (1881-1963) and Arthur Benda of Russian ballerina Anna Pawlowa (ANNA PAVLOVA). In 1907, Dora opened a photography studio with Benda in Vienna called the Benda-D’Ora Studio. The name was based on the pseudonym “Madame d’Ora”, which she used professionally. The gallery became was so successful that they opened another studio in Paris in 1924, thanks to popularity amongst aristocrats. Three years later she left Vienna for Paris. In Paris, she became known for her society and fashion photography during the 1930s and 1940s. ---- Acquired about 25 years ago from the estate of a big collector who traveled the world and had some very scarce paper items.
