Vtg 1940s GERMAN Sterling Asian Lady Figural Rhinestone Pendant

Description: PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION AS THIS IS AN INTERESTING PIECE…At first look, I thought this Stunner was a NETTIE ROSENSTEIN piece….Nettie Rosenstein designed a series of Oriental figural brooches/pins consisting of molded lucite and gold-plated base metal. While she designed much of her collection with Sterling, the Oriental Series were not. She hallmarked those pieces with an elongated cartouche with her name inscribed. I have, in fact, had the pleasure of owning this exact piece signed by Nettie. When I first saw this beauty, of course, I expected to turn it over and see the Nettie hallmarked cartouche. Not. Better yet, it is hallmarked “Germany Sterling” and there is a maker’s mark which is so small I cannot make it out, nor get a decent photograph. Had this been a Nettie piece, it would be of base metal, but better it is vermeil plated STERLING. It is also facing the opposite direction of the Nettie design. And, had this been a Nettie piece, it would be a Brooch/Pin, but this is a Pendant with a pivoting bale. Whether Nettie was inspired by this piece, or vice versa, this is a REMARKABLE PIECE, one you are not likely to find another. Since Nettie didn’t patent her designs, nor did she leave historical information on her career, designs and alike, ascertaining additional information regarding this fantastical piece, may just have to continue to be a wonderful mystery!!!As a Collector and Dealer, I find that Morning Glory Antiques online is an invaluable resource for researching and viewing a huge collection of designers, advertisements etc. This exact piece is featured on that site under the section “Morning Glory Collects” and the subsection “Unusual things”.
