Marked THE ISLAND OF LEPERS SAN ANTONIO 6, TEXAS I cannot find any information about The Island of Lepers in San Antonio Texas. Before leprosy (Hansen’s Disease) was better understood and treatable, those afflicted were exiled, often under terrible conditions. These items came into my possession from an estate sale, where they were in a desk drawer with a small collection of other souvenirs and thank you items from charitable organizations. I suspect this was a thank you tchotchke for a donation given to the leper colony. A fascinating but sad piece of medical and social history. Some wear and light scratching.
