Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. If you are looking for something a little different in the vintage mic collection then you might want to consider this very unique and rarer Altec D80C model dynamic cardioid microphone with High impedance setting. The mic was very good for general broadcasting or singing purposes. The mic comes with a mic clip and a period Ampex model chrome desk stand in which to display. It should be noted right away that while this mic still works the original dynamic cardioid element has lower than usual output. Only about 60% so this should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. This mic has a little weight to it being an all metal construction and built like a tank. It has a very modern mid century design and is very appealing to the eye. Bold and elegant at the same time. This Altec mic was actually manufactured in Austria and I have a feeling this mic was actually built by AKG because of the front metal screen and inner element. AKG was notorious for selling this exact style but in a smaller gold scheme and to my knowledge AKG was the only company to do so. It was most likely a collaboration between the two companies. A very attractive black finish as well. Mic is appx 6 3/4 inches long X 1 1/2 inch wide at the widest part of the bezel on the bottom of the tip. It's an all metal body with a gorgeous satin silver finish and the flat black grill really makes this mic very handsome in nature. The original satin chrome finish is free of any scuff marks, scratches or engravings but there are a couple spots of corrosion on the bezel where the Altec label is. The front screen has no tarnish or dents. Just a few lite scuff marks. The XLR pins were cleaned as well. I would rate the true cosmetic condition of this mic an 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 though many would rate it higher. The aftermarket mic clip is included and will screw onto any desk or floor stand you might use. Plenty of tension in the joint mechanism and it's adjustable with any flat head screwdriver. Shows almost zero wear and no fractures. It's an all metal design and compliments the mic nicely. The mic takes a standard XLR cable though none is provided. They are easy enough to find. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTO IS PART OF THIS SALE... The mic stand is an equally nice and period Ampex model being an all metal design with a satin chrome and polished chrome finish. It makes for a stable platform and really completes the mid century look. It comes with a 4 inch chrome riser. This Ampex stand is a 1960's era model but I don't remember the model name or number. The stand is appx 7 inches deep X 3 1/4 inches across X 4 1/2 inches tall. The chrome finish is very nice but there are just a couple very small spots of pitting. Otherwise very nice. It still has the 4 cork pads on the bottom as well and they are all in excellent shape. As with all my vintage items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
