This photo was purchased at auction from Swann Galleries in Manhattan and prior to that I believe it was owned by the Burt Goldblatt estate. Many of the photos listed for sale are featured in the seminal work by Burt Goldblatt, Jazz Gallery One. Burt Goldblatt was a photographer, graphic designer, art director and author. He worked mainly within the Jazz scene of New York City often photographing at nightclubs and recording sessions. Goldblatt was also a prolific album designer, producing avant-garde artwork for numerous record labels including Bethlehem, Decca, Atlantic, and Jolly Roger. Many of the complex covers montaged Goldblatt's own photographs with overlays of dynamic color fields, X-rays, and expressive illustrations. We will be selling a large number of original Goldblatt photos over the coming weeks. Many of the photos were the original photos contained in the seminal jazz photography book Jazz Gallery One.
