Trujillo’s rise to power. The fair featured perfor- mances, parades, art exhibits, and trade shows highlighting the artistic, commercial, and military feats achieved during the regime (1930-1961). This essay explores how the fair constructed the idea of a Dominican nation by defining a cultural and spatial geography that was described by a solid partition in the geopolitical border with Haiti, and a fluid marine threshold for tourists along the coastline.
