Description: This vintage Lenox Toby jug, featuring William Penn, is a unique addition to any collection. With a capacity of 24 oz. , it will hold the largest bottle of beer. Toby jugs began being made by potter’s in the 1700’s. No one is precisely sure, but tradition has it that they were made after the English drinking song “Little Brown Jug” which paid tribute to Henry Elwes. Henry was a Yorkshire drinker known as Toby Filpot! The jug is made of glazed ceramic and is easy to use, with a lip on both sides and a large handle. It has a pour spout for easily emptying , (that would be water not beer!) The back is imprinted “TREATY” and “WILLIAM PENN”. Care instructions include machine washable up to 140°F, making it a durable piece for everyday use. The jug has a cream color with a man pattern. This original, unused item was manufactured in the United States in 1980 and is a great way to add a touch of colonial style to any home. It is sparkling clean and no chips, cracks or crazing.
