(Un-numbered) Title: Unknown Joan Mir Abstract Composition Color Lithograph 1970's This original lithograph is signed in Black by the artist "Mir" in the lower right corner. This lithograph was purchased from an estate in San Diego. ( 5 Lithographs were purchased in total please see my other Joan Miro Lithograph listings. The Lithographs were removed from the original black frames for a few hours so photos could be taken for you to view to show the Lithographs are indeed original from the 1960's and 1970's. Each lithograph has been resealed and is ready for hanging). Prints of this age show expected signs of age - like darkening around the edges some ragged edges, and some pale light staining aging as seen on the back (see the photos for actual condition). This Lithograph of the 5 Lithographs has cardboard glued to the paper back because it had ripples /wavyness to the paper not noticeable in the frame now. The paper can't be separated from the cardboard. However, you can see the paper edges on the cardboard backing. The colors on this Lithograph have remained vibrant and the paper is stable. Flat smooth texture with even color distribution. Super nice Lithograph. The Black Frame does have some minor imperfections. Does not come with a Certificate of Authenticity. However, the lithograph is well documented in design history. Joan Mir Spanish, 18931983 Widely considered one of the leading Surrealists (though he was never officially part of the group), Joan Mir was also a pioneer of automatism: a method of spontaneous drawing that attempted to express the inner workings of the human psyche. Mir used color and form in a symbolic manner, developing intricate compositions and a wandering linear style that combined abstract elements with recurring motifs such as birds, eyes, and the moon. During his lifetime, Mir received the Grand Prize for Graphic Work at the 1954 Venice Biennale, exhibited at the first Documenta exhibition in 1955, and enjoyed multiple high-profile retrospectives. Today, Mirs workwhich has sold for eight figures at auctioncan be found in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Modern Art, among other institutions. His public sculptures and murals are installed in cities around the world, including Milan, Paris, and Barcelona.
