Hirayama served as the president of Tokyo University of the Arts, chairman of the Japan Art Academy, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, and chairman of the Japan Foundation for Artistic and Cultural Heritage. Alongside his painting career, he was dedicated to cultural heritage preservation, leaving behind many works themed on world peace, the Silk Road, and cultural heritage.
