Description: Vintage Japanese Koi Fish & Geisha Handpainted Eggshell China Teacup & Saucer. I do not know the age or country of origin (but the theme is certainly Japanese and it is one of three more likely countries of origin as well) but this is very likely a tourist type piece and so if my category choice is a mistake please correct me. The saucer has red around the edges and the cup green, and while the both have people painted on them and elements of the natural world, only the saucer has the Koi fish. So there is a chance they were not originally together but they seem very likely to have identical origins and styles, with the textured paint and the ribbed/fluted outer edges, and the overall color choices. When I got them they were presented as a set but there were dozens of other China pieces so who knows how these came to be. There are definitely somewhat old going by the style and patina but they are unmarked so likely not standard imports unless of course they had a sticker rather than a print, which would give some experts a clue as to possible date ranges. Selling mainly in the hopes someone with a fascination with the Koi fish in particular would want something to signify it on display, as I know Japanese imagery itself is all too common on otherwise not very noteworthy pieces of "collectible" China. Pretty good shape, maybe some flaws in the paint. Only chips in the glass I notice are a couple small arrears on the very edge of the saucer, not too distracting. There some very fine and not very long hairline cracks, possibly even from the kiln, and only visible on the bottom of the saucer, not likely to develop any further without serious mishandling. They are very delicate, much more so than standard service ware China. I'd use for decoration or extremely rare occasions only.
