Description: I'm a magician and I'm listing many magic tricks, DVDs, etc. If you are not a magician but are interested in a high quality top hat, you can ignore the next paragraph and read on after that. We magicians have a choice of types of top hats. Those types are far apart in terms of quality and price. We can get the inexpensive plastic and cloth collapsible top hats ($20 - $45) or we can get a genuine silk or satin top hat (which typically cost $250 to $600). This listing is in that latter category. It's a real top hat. Some of the cheap ones are of good enough quality to use in magic shows. But some magicians want the real thing, and here is your chance to get the real thing for a very reasonable price. Note that used hats like this sell for $300-$400. I can't make out the manufacturer (see shot of inside of hat). I googled it and it looks like it was made long ago (I think that manufacturer has been out of business for a long time). But it is in outstanding condition. From a few feet away it looks practically new, inside and out. I decided I can't afford to keep such a high ticket item, and I use a $40 plastic and cloth version top hat for my shows. I bought this a few years ago but have never used it in my shows. If you are not a magician and into theater, or for some other reason want a bona fide classic top hat of really good quality, this may be for you! This comes with a hat box. I got this used and can't verify that the hat box is original with the hat. The hat box is very, very old. It serves as a way to store the hat in the open position without the hat collecting dust. If you are a magician, you will want to transport the hat to your show collapsed and in a different, sturdy box of some sort. I did not even take a photo of the hat box. Trust me, it is old! The bottom is functional for storage, but partially detached. It detaches inward, and is thus not falling off the bottom. So it functions fine as a dust protector. While this hat and box are old, I have noticed no musty smell at all. Also, there are a couple of parts of the hat in a couple of the photos that look like there is wear and tear on this hat. Well, the camera doesn't lie, but it might fib a little. Those photos seem to exaggerate very small imperfections. This is really in fine shape. Not mint, but very good to excellent. Unfortunately, given the size of the hat box, it may exceed the standard USPS dimensions and thus incur extra shipping costs. However, if the actual shipping cost is less than you pay, I will reimburse you the difference. Or, if you want me to ditch the hat box and ship the hat collapsed, that could save on shipping. UPDATE: I've had three people inquire about the size. I cut some 1 inch strips of paper, taped them end to end and put them around the opening of the hat. I can't guarantee accuracy given from the very outer part of the inside of the hat, it narrows a bit. Anyway, my best estimate is 21 inches. All three inquirers said that was too small. But for magicians who use a top hat as a prop, this should don't be an issue. But if someone wants to wear it, this comes out to about a size 6 1/2 (again, an estimate).
