Vintage Franciscan Desert Rose Dinnerware; Made in England by Wedgwood

Description: Franciscan Desert Rose "Earthenware Made In England" Backstamp. "A Member of the Wedgwood Group". Discontinued. Made from 1985 until 2003. Note that Franciscan made this dinnerware pattern in the United States from 1941 until 1984. It was then acquired by the Wedgwood Group in England, where it's manufacture continued, but in England and Portugal (with corresponding backstamps) until 2003. These newer pieces may vary slightly from the original "Made in USA" Desert Rose dishware, but are high quality, and the one's I have listed here appear near new, are all made in England, with a glossy shine and no noticed flaws. The cups do not have any backstamp. If you are interested in the older "Made in USA" pieces, I have another listing of those with cups and saucers only. The inspiration for Franciscan's Desert Rose dinnerware has been attributed to Annette Honeywell, a California freelance artist. Based on Honeywell's designs, Franciscan artist Mary Winans modeled the Desert Rose tableware design that would go on to be touted as "the most popular pattern ever made in America."
