Description: This is a Federal tabletop AM radio that also has 19-to-49-meter bands. Pictures may say 1000 words, but it is the 10,000 that they don't say that can be unclear to a buyer so I will also include this verbal description. As stated, the radio is working with a very sensitive receiver with good volume and sound quality. The orange wire is for the 19-to-49-meter bands antenna, I did not have an outside antenna for this, but I did use a signal generator to test that this band is also receiving. The AM antenna is built in. This cabinet is very solid and has normal scuffs and scratches as might be expected for a radio of this age. This radio also has the wood back which is missing on many of these radios. The dial works smoothly, and the two #47 lamps are good. Several capacitors have been replaced as well as the volume control and on-off switch. It appears that anything that needed to be replaced has been replaced to make this radio properly functional. Because the volume control and on-off switch was one unit and had a long shaft it was difficult to find and exact replacement volume control and on-switch. This new one installed is electrically correct, but the shaft is a bit shorter than the original which means that volume knob has to have a longer shaft to compensate. This is why the knobs are not an exact match but are still functional and displays well. In case you are a stickler for the exact knobs I will include a control shaft extender so if you do have or find the exact knob(s) you will be able to adapt and make it work. One note here, the original volume control on these radios were problematic. They only had a thin film of carbon on the volume wiper track. Over time carbon would flake off and the volume would blast out or totally go away as you turned the volume knob. At best they were very scratchy and noisy. Rest assured the on-off switch and volume control works excellent on this one and having the shorter volume shaft is a good compromise for a good working radio. Sorry to be so long and wordy here but I wanted the potential buyer to know what they are getting. Thanks for looking.
