Vintage Excellent USED 1940s MILLER HATS Cowboy Hat 6-7/8 to 7

Description: Vintage 1940s MILLER HATS - Light Brown - Wide Brim - Telescope Crown - Clint Eastwood type (Fist Full of Dollars type shaping).It has a size under-tag that’s states 6-7/8 and measures to a perfect 6-7/8. It’s perfectly shaped! It’s a real looker! If you look at the last picture you will see that this was stretched to a PERFECT size 7. See last picture. After we measured it again for the listing it had shrunk down to a size 6-7/8. This means that if you wanted to stretch this to a perfect size 7 it is very possible. We believe that if we had left it for a longer time it would have kept the stretch in the leather sweatband’s memory. It was only on the stretcher for a couple of days before we removed it. Many of our hat buyers are using the Amazon $15 hat stretcher getting excellent results. Another hint is that Dad uses Glove Oil. Apply Glove Oil (same as what’s used on Baseball Gloves to soften them up) and allow it to absorb and dry, repeat the same a second time then start the stretching. If anyone out there has some details please write to us.This is quite the hat! Seen in so many of the Clint Eastwood Western movies besides many other movies and 1950-1960 TV Western TV series.You can see that this was manufactured between well before 1950s, even before the 1940s?, because the liner is made from SILK and NOT Satin, there is no plastic overlay on the liner or “Onion Skin” liner cover.As my grandson did the final inspection and examined the hat carefully he found some minor rubs and a couple very very tiny tiny surface moth chews, we added pictures at the end to show any discrepancies, again we hide NOTHING! You can see that many threads broken on the sewn seam on the leather sweatband. Don't worry though Dad used a piece from a Stetson leather sweatband and glued it in behind the sewn joint. This is now the strongest part of the leather sweatband. See pictures, we lifted it up so you can see how secure it is now.This is a Light Brown color and the picture of the whole underside is the best representation of the actual color.This was cleaned and shaped by my grandson and dad! This looks great with the Telescope crown but if you wanted it reshaped please write to us before buying the hat and send us a picture of what you are wanting and we will respond back. We think this shaping is PERFECT for this outstanding true vintage cowboy hat! NOTE: this was found stored along with a couple other hats inside a hat box but that old hat box has completely disintegrated! And cannot be saved unfortunately.We rarely find a Fur Felt hat of this quality! If it wasn’t designated as Fur Felt and we just had to go by the feel of this hat we would have said it was a BEAVER 25. This is one time we really appreciated what the old True Vintage Fur Felt can be! It’s so very soft and pliable! Not floppy but pliable!After steam shaping this hat we no longer will ever say that Fur Felt is nothing like Beaver! These older True Vintage ones do match up with most high end Beaver material hat! Not so true with newer ones, so apologies if we ever underestimated Fur Felt hats before!We never give much attention to Fur Felt Hats today because they are all so very very stiff and the material feels a bit rough compared to Beaver. This is an EXCEPTION though. This is made from “4X QUALITY”, which at that time, as per one of Dads hat collectors was a PURE FUR FELT! Back in that time the manufacturers would need to compete with all the other name brands like Stetson, Dobbs and all the other high end hat manufacturers. So they Fur Felt must have had a nice mix of beaver included. The best way to feel the quality of the material is when steam shaping the hat. This was easily steamed and shaping was just as easily done as with the Beaver quality hats we are more accustomed to shaping. We will NEVER again say that Beaver is the best material. These older true vintage Pure Fur Felts melted like butter when steam shaping and that normally only gets that soft and pliable (when it’s steamed) as the Beaver hats. This Fur Felt acted like a Beaver quality material and is very very soft and thick. We took out dad’s collection of 1950 Stetson Beaver hat, 3X 10X, 15X, 20X and the TwentyFive. This best matches a 15X Beaver. This was a higher quality hat that could be an everyday hat. This is extremely soft and pliable and can easily steamed into any shape or style you desire.If you have any questions please write DetailsThere is a size tag that states “6-7/8” and we actually measure each hat 3 times to verify its true size. This measures to a perfect 6-7/8 at 22-5/8 inches. We use the 1970s with the Tilley hat sizing chart, still in use today. This could easily be stretched to close to a size 7 though, that’s 22 inches. Dad says that the maximum stretch though. It’s will take a $15 Amazon hat stretcher or any hat stretcher will do plus time and patience. They sell for about $18 but if you decide you’d like one it will add $10 to the sale price. These are still all very elastic and can be sewn on by any decent tailor or just added as a decoration.
