Description: This beautiful hen on nest basket small salt cellar or trinket dish was made by the Crystal Art Glass Company of Cambridge, Ohio, also known as Degenhart. That is the name used by collectors of products made by this company, as its founders were John and Elizabeth Degenhart, who started the glassworks in 1947. The husband died in 1964, and in 1978, after the death of Mrs. Degenhart, the molds were sold. The D in a heart trademark was removed, which means any piece that has the D in the Heart mark on the bottom is immediately recognized by collectors as a true Degenhart piece! And this little hen is, indeed, a true Degenhart. The company produced over 145 different colors of glass, and this is a green glass hen. Sweet piece for the collector of Degenhart glass, or for the lover of hens. Because what is not to love about these social animals that love humans as the source of food each day, almost as much as humans love hens as a source of food! Measures 3-1/4" long by 2-3/8" wide and just under 3" tall. Weighs 6.5 ounces unpacked. No chips nor cracks. In great vintage condition.
