Description: Offered for your consideration is one (1) vintage CTS 3 inch Alnico magnet cone tweeter, USA-manufactured in 1970. It was removed from an AZTEC Coquette two-way speaker. As you likely know, CTS was a notable supplier to the domestic speaker industry from the late 1950’s to 1980’s. Per the EIA source/date code stamped on the magnet cover in green, 137 7015, this high-frequency driver was made by CTS in the 15th week of 1970. So, please see the large photos I’ve taken and read the remaining description to decide if this capable CTS tweeter should be yours. This CTS tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. It has a perfect paper cone and voice coil dustcap. Plus, the anodized steel basket is in great shape with no dings or undue oxidation noted. Plus, the +/- terminals measure the industry standard .205”, are marked for polarity, and were de-soldered for the next owner’s convenience. Most importantly, it has been fully tested and sounds very nice—clear and detailed with crisp highs approaching beyond-audibility “sparkle.” Plus, it has the Alnico magnet warmth of tone that such older drivers are sought for. And, I tested the DC resistance at 5.6Ω, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the flange measures 3” across, the cone proper is 2⅝”, it stands 1 9/16” tall, and the mount holes are spaced 2 7/16” adjacent / 3⅜” diagonal apart, c-t-c. This is a nice find for someone that needs a replacement tweeter for their AZTEC, Ohm, Sylvania, or other domestic brands that used this high frequency driver platform in the late 1960’s and early 70’s.
