Description: These bookends feature monkeys carved with great detail. One has metal spectacles and is reading a book, the other is grooming its thigh. Both monkeys rotate (but not 360 degrees) on a small peg; the "grooming" one comes off its peg, but stays in place when the bookend is undisturbed. I believe carvings are Swiss. The "reading" monkey matches an image of one identified elsewhere as from Ernst Schmocker of Lucerne (Luzern), Switzerland. This pair was inherited from parents who visited Lucerne in 1937 and 1950 and/or grandparents who were there in 1937 and the 1960s. There are a few miniscule paint specks. Light wear to the boards includes a light scratch to the wood finish on the back on one bookend and a water stain to bottom of one. The "grooming" monkey comes off its peg, but stays in place when the bookend is positioned for use. New felt pads have been applied to the bottom, replacing ones that were missing or half-crumbled from age. They can be peeled off if not wanted.
