Description: A long set of gold plated on copper sheets Buddhist text. The text and images were pressed by hand into the metal sheets. We bought this at an antiques auction near Kyoto in Japan. All the text is in Kanji, no Hiragana. It's possible this was brought from China sometime in the past. In 26 years of dealing with Japanese antiques we've never seen anything like this. We verified it as being gold plated and not pure gold by having it tested at a business that deals exclusively with jewelry and coins. Th sheets are hinged and fold out. They fit into the box shown in the photos We don't know how old it is. Gold doesn't oxidize. The sheets are 5 inches wide by 7 3/4 inches high.Stretched out it's 8 foot 4 inches long there are 20 pages.It weighs just over 2 1/2 pounds We have been selling Japanese antiques for 26 years and are shipping from Los AngelesWe have other antique/vintage Japanese items on ebay.
