Description: Vintage California Art Pottery Figurine/Vase Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage art pottery lady vase. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This figural piece is in the form of a dancing lady. She wears a full-skirted dress and a tall hat. This piece has multicolored glazes (mostly rosy pink), with unglazed parts that are terracotta-colored clay. The details of calla lilies on her skirt are a nice touch. The area within her arms/hands is the vase opening. This piece is approximately 8 1/4 inches tall, 6 5/8 inches long, and 5 3/8 inches wide. Unpacked, it weighs 2 pounds 6.0 ounces. There are felt pads applied beneath. This would be an uncommon addition to a collection of vintage California pottery. Identification This piece has incised markings beneath, "Seramart by beth." This was probably made by an artist using the California Faience facility in Berkeley, California. California Faience allowed outside artists to use their clay, glazes, and kilns to make pottery tiles, figurines, and other artware. This piece has glazes which are similar to those found on California Faience pottery, and the reddish clay is also consistent. The exact age of this piece is not known, but it is probably circa 1930s to 1940s. The exact identity of "beth" is not known. Condition This piece looks great overall, with no chips or cracks.
