Description: Well, look at this gorgeousness, this rarity of rarities. I would be shocked if there were more than one of these still surviving in the world. Probably a very small number were run for the university. If you are of the Church of Barbara Guest, you know she was one of our greatest American poets. Her poetry was ethereal, intellectually astute and perverse by turns, but always sensuous and (although she denied it) philosophically astute. There really is nobody like her in American poetry...then or now. One could argue she gave Mannerism back its good name. This poster advertises a lecture and poetry reading she was giving at the University of Minnesota way back in 1975. It measures 24 x 17 inches and is very well-preserved overall. Tiny edge tears (see photos). Mary Allott's design is just fabulous, rather Mattissean. It appears Barbara Guest addressed the poster for mailing herself, so you do have her signature as well...a lovely boon! It's so appropriate that "The Countess from Minneapolis" delivered the lecture in that state! This is just waiting to be attractively framed and be the perfect show piece for that writer/lover of some of the best avant-garde poetry America has produced.
